Flags for the ESC Congress in the pedestrian zone in Munich

Munich is showing its colours

Munich is getting all dressed up for big events

Trade fair and convention visitors from around the globe were greeted by flying flags showing that they are welcome and appreciated guests. The basis for this was a Munich city council resolution from 2018.

There is nothing that good hosts wouldn't do to please their cherished guests, from a finely laid table to lovingly prepared meals through to the little black dress and tailored trousers instead of casual attire. This is how to demonstrate personal esteem: "You're worth it; your visit makes my day". And when the guests are thoroughly happy, all the better.

What holds in the private sphere the city of Munich translates to the public sphere: trade fair and convention visitors from around the globe are greeted by flying flags showing that they are welcome and appreciated guests. This is thanks to a Munich city council resolution of 2018 which significantly extends the reach of city dressing as part of the general visualisation concept for leading trade fairs and conventions.

Tokens of Open-Mindedness and Hospitality

Delegates to major medical congresses like EAACI, ESC or ESMO, for example, were also greeted by "Munich Welcomes" flags flying on the Stachus square and in the pedestrian precinct in addition to the information booths at the airport, and flags hoisted at the main conference hotels, the main station and at the exhibition sites. They are tokens of the open mindedness and hospitality of the Isar metropolis. Furthermore, the citizens of Munich should also be reminded of how popular their city is as the stage for many great events.

In future, too, leading trade fairs, major conventions and large-scale tourist events in the city will be highlighted in this way. The flags will fly just before and during the events.

City Dressing as Location Advantage

The extended visualisation concept is much more than a "nice to have" for event organisers. For the Munich Convention Bureau the city dressing options are a tangible advantage in the highly competitive world of organising top-level trade fairs and congresses compared with all other European cities. Only the city of Munich can present such an attractive service in its portfolio.

Creativity is demanded to integrate major events into the city's life. For instance, ahead of the ESC Congress 2018, branded rickshaws made the citizens of Munich aware of the Heart Information Day that took place at the Odeonsplatz square as part of the cardiology congress. Considering the theme "Healthy Hearts for Munich" this public experience event offered visitors information on the topic of cardiovascular health.

New Information Columns for Easier Orientation

When congress delegates go off on their own to discover Munich they can benefit from a new service provided by the city: interactive info columns stand in the pedestrian precinct to help with orientation and show the attractions worth seeing in the vicinity. Around the columns Wi-Fi enables free internet access among other things to the digital offering of the city which includes an interactive map of Munich. This shows not only the shortest route to a selected destination, but also proposes an alternative route that takes you past interesting sights close by and provides information about public transport, restaurants and shops. The info columns are designed to be freely accessible through the use of Braille and Pyramid script, and mobile apps provide information in German and English for persons with disabilities.
